![]() ![]() The process of adjusting the action of your piano to your liking is called “regulation”, and any qualified technician can do that as already mentioned. They have weighted keys so that the experience of playing one more closely resembles a traditional piano. Do digital pianos have weighted keys?Ī digital piano as the name suggests, is intended simply to be a digital replication of an acoustic or grand piano. ![]() Entry level digital pianos use a similar action but with the addition of a small weight added to each key. So how does a digital piano effectively simulate this weight and resistance? Keyboards and synths use a spring loaded key action where a spring at the back of the key ensures the key returns to the up position. Weighted keys will bring the beginner pianist closer to that of an acoustic piano, helping them feel the sensitivity required to push down the keys with different levels of control, as opposed to those on most keyboards that are unweighted. When you depress a key on a piano, you actually are physically lifting the hammer (felt which strikes the strings) and associated action parts, against gravity. Not that they often achieve it on any consistent basis, however. ![]() Most piano manufacturers today aim for a touchweight of around 50 grams. ![]()
